5 MINUTES WITH KELSI

What does your day typically involve?

My day can be quite varied but it mainly involves compliance, such as preparing annual accounts and tax returns for businesses. Clients also ask for advice on a wide range of things, such as payroll, bookkeeping, buying a new property or selling a business. It’s never the same thing twice because it’s very specific to each client.

Describe the path that lead to what you’re doing now.

I did a bit of accounting in high school and really liked it. I was really good at maths so I went to university to do commerce with a friend, and ended up majoring in accounting. I really like numbers – I’ve always been a bit of a nerd!

What kind of clients do you prefer working with?

When clients have a good bookkeeper it means their accounts are really clean and you can focus more on giving tax and business advice.

What are some of your highlights from your work here?

As part of our Christmas 2016 festivities we had a nerf gun fight. That was pretty awesome! I like that GeersSullivan values the culture aspect of things. It’s important when you have a firm where people are your main asset. It really bonds the team together.

What’s your favourite food?

That’s a really hard question… I don’t think I can narrow it down. Just food in general!

What do you do outside of the office?

I hang out with friends, spend time with my partner and our dogs, and binge-watch English comedies like Black Books and Spaced. I’ve got a dry sense of humour.

What’s on your bucket list?

I’d like to visit Canada and New Zealand. I also want to go back to Japan – I love the cold weather and the landscape is beautiful, especially the hot springs. Then I’ll go on a big European trip to everywhere I didn’t get to go last time.
