Ronald McDonald House

GeersSullivan has been involved with Ronald McDonald House since 2003 in a variety of capacities. We’re proud to be a part of the amazing work they do.

Background

Ronald McDonald House Charities is a non-profit organisation that supports seriously ill children and their families,.

The cornerstone of RMHC’s work are their Ronald McDonald Houses. These facilities are attached to major children’s hospitals and offer families a place to stay while their child is being treated. Currently 14 houses across Australia are available to over 7,500 families every year, particularly from regional areas.

Though there’s no place like home, Ronald McDonald House staff, volunteers and supporters help create a homely atmosphere by providing home-cooked meals each night, education opportunities for the children residents and a sense of community with other families. They’re dedicated to making the lives of families a bit easier during an especially stressful time for them.

Our Involvement

GeersSullivan supports the Ronald McDonald House, which has over 220 active volunteers and is supported by McDonald’s licencees and other organisations across WA.

We were inspired to become involved with Ronald McDonald House because their values align with our own. Everyone at Ronald McDonald House is so dedicated to helping families during what is no doubt one of the most heartbreaking situations they can be facing – that of an incredibly ill child.

Our Managing Director, Andrew Sullivan, was Treasurer of the Ball Committee from 2003, which is responsible for organising the annual ball in November and other fundraising initiatives throughout the year. When Andrew was invited to join the Board of Ronald McDonald House Western Australia as Treasurer in 2013, Senior Manager Candice Kennedy then stepped into the role of Ball Committee Treasurer.  Just recently, in April 2019, Andrew was appointed Chair of the Board.

Alongside our professional expertise, GeersSullivan also proudly supports the work of Ronald McDonald House through internal fundraising and donations, such as staff casual dress days (for a gold coin donation), raffles and participating in the Home for Dinner Program cooking meals for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Our Impact

As Treasurer of Ronald McDonald House, Andrew oversees the financial management of the organisation as a whole and ensures compliance. One of his approaches has been to generate financial reports on a monthly basis. These accurate snapshots provide the Board with the ability to engage with the financial information while ensuring effective budget management.

GeersSullivan recognises that taking a professional and strategic approach to fundraising creates big results for this type of organisation. For Candice, this means working with the Ball Committee to find the most efficient ways to raise funds and therefore help increase the financial stability of Ronald McDonald House.

GeersSullivan also provides ad hoc advice as needed, as well as completing Ronald McDonald House’s Fringe Benefits Tax return.

It’s highly rewarding work and we’re proud to be part of a charity that is so impactful for WA families.

“Andrew and Candice are both very friendly, professional and dedicated. We know that they’re always looking out for our best interests, whether that’s in their day-to-day accounting and tax advice or the financial planning expertise within their Board and Committee roles. We’re lucky to have them!” – Rochelle Ford, Business Manager
